The Seattle-based production crew of Asylum is proud to announce, after much preparation and pre-production work, the film’s Red Carpet Launch Event and kickoff of their online crowdsourcing campaign to secure completion funds for production.
Actor Melinda Raebyne, known for her lead role in Tapat Sa Pangako, which debuted at Cannes Film Festival, is excited to co-direct her first written short film Asylum with Tony Doupe. Tony, recently acknowledged for his role in Wild, an Oscar-nominated feature film, is the anchor among other professionals assisting Melinda on this project.
Although based on true events, Asylum is an entirely fictional story exploring the correlation between domestic violence and mental illness. These social issues feed off each other and are brought to life in the production. Melinda hopes it delivers a very powerful message too; for those on a similar journey, she has a message: “You are not alone; I see you and I hear you.”
An exclusive promo video will be screening and featuring interviews of five individuals who have experienced domestic violence and how they dealt with their trauma. Observe engaging live performances with spoken word performer Sharon Nyree Williams, singer Ms. Lady Luv, opera singer Jose Iniguez and Melinda as they address many domestic violence issues through their art form. Nationally recognized, Anny Havland from Talk It Up TV is the event’s MC.
